Choosing the flexibility of Hitachi Set Free Σ VRF & airCloud Pro IoT VRF remote management

In Sydney’s eastern suburbs, 179-191 New South Head Road, Edgecliff covers approximately 1650 square metres across three-floors accommodating varied floor plan options and has a 4-Star NABERS Energy Base Building rating.

The site recently went through an upgrade, with developer Anka Group appointing award-winning architects Group GSA for the design and delivery of the building renovations.

Techline Air Conditioning Services were the HVAC contractors for this renovation. The decision was made to upgrade the existing HVAC equipment to a Hitachi Set Free Σ Heat Recovery system utilising high static ducted units and Hitachi’s airCloud Pro IoT remote management VRF control system.

The overall system consisted of 285.5kW of Heat Recovery, 18 high static ducted units, 2 mid static ducted units and Hitachi’s HC-IOTGW airCloud Pro with PSC-A32MN Central Controller on the switchboard.

Techline Air Conditioning Services used Hitachi VRF because it overcame challenges presented by the upgrade.

There were limited space restrictions when it came to installing the pipework, Hitachi’s new branch boxes, which accommodate up to 16 ports, were the perfect solution as they are more compact and lighter compared to other products in the market. The compact design made it easier to find locations and position branch boxes to make the best use of limited space for installation.

Due to location of the condenser units being installed in the underground carpark, high static pressure was required on the condenser fans to be able to duct away the air. The ability to set the condenser fans to a high static pressure of 80Pa meant Hitachi Set Free Σ easily met the project requirements.

Limited space was available to accommodate the VRF HVAC condenser units. Hitachi Set Free Σ includes condenser units up to 67kW with small footprints, this resulted in overall space savings on the footprint of the entire system.

The inclusion of airCloud Pro allows the VRF system to be monitored and managed one touch from anywhere. airCloud Pro, winner of the 2021 Australia Good design Awards for Digital Apps and Software, is a cloud-based solution for remote access via a smart phone, tablet or laptop.

Hitachi’s airCloud Pro gateway enables the control up to 80 indoor units and 16 outdoor units by using centralised control of the entire VRF systems or selected zones. Multiple gateways can be incorporated on a single project.

The intuitive interface allows you to optimise a range of operations including temperature adjustments, fan speed and louvre direction control, scheduling and user permissions.

The live control dashboard allows you improve the comfort of your occupants all while monitoring the power and energy usage. The secure registration and login provide quick access to the most common functions and the ability to control an unlimited number of sites.
