McDonald's Silverdale utilise Econex

McDonalds is committed to implementing innovative new strategies to reduce the energy consumption in their restaurants across New Zealand.

McDonalds Silverdale chose Econex R32 Inverter rooftop package systems as their HVAC solution. Utilising inverter compressor systems and R32 refrigerant allows for reduced overall power usage and a lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) compared to traditional R410A fixed-speed rooftop package systems.

Two OPA 560 55.6kW units provide independent heating and cooling services to the kitchen and dining area. Both units include a fresh air kit and economiser for reduced power consumption in shoulder seasons.

Using R32 refrigerant, the OPA 560 has a 77% reduction in GWP compared to the R410A equivalent. The OPA 560 installed in Auckland boasts a Total Cooling Seasonal Performance Factor (TCSPF) of 5.22, whereas the fixed speed equivalent is only 3.42.

This HVAC system was designed and installed by Kevin at HVAC Design and Build Ltd.

McDonalds Silverdale, through Solar365, also installed 86 x 400W Risen All Black Solar Modules with 1 x 30kW Huawei Inverter. The system will produce around 40,000kWh of solar power per annum, which is a fraction of what the restaurant uses but power that will fully self-consume.
