Greenstar Performance NZ Launch

According to Temperzone Group Marketing Manager, David Staker, the biggest challenge facing commercial air conditioning is for building owners, developers and key tenants to understand is that life cycle running costs dwarf the capital cost of the air conditioning equipment. This means that installing a high efficiency air conditioning system as either a new or replacement makes excellent environmental as well as financial sense.

David Staker made this comment at the launch of Greenstar Performance in NZ.

Temperzone was the principal sponsor of the launch by the New Zealand Green Building Council of Greenstar - Performance on November 29th.

Greenstar Performance is a system for assessing the operational performance of an existing building across 9 impact categories: Management, Indoor Environment Quality, Energy, Transport, Water, Materials, Land Use and ecology, Emissions and Innovation. The Green Star - Performance rating tool allows building owners to measure and continually improve upon their buildings' operational impacts.

NZGBC Chief Executive Officer Andrew Eagles commended Temperzone for their vision in developing the half day seminar program which included presentations from 10 speakers including: Sharon Zoller (ANZ Bank Chief Economist in NZ) and Eliza Mathews (ANZ Bank Associate Director – Sustainable Finance Solutions), Andrew Eagles (CEO NZGBC)and Sam Archer (Director of Market Transformation – NZGBC), Councillor Penny Hulse from Auckland City Council, Ross Liston (Associate Director Advisory Risk KPMG NZ), Nicole Sullivan (Senior Manager Greenstar Solutions - Green Building Council of Australia), Connal Townsend (CEO of the Property Council NZ), Brendon Dwyer (GM Building Services - BECA Building Services and David Staker, Temperzone Group Marketing Manager.

David Staker introduced the audience to the Temperzone ECO and ECO Ultra ranges of product by demonstrating the huge reduction in running costs and CO2 emissions that can be achieved by marrying high efficiency designs with smart control systems.

Temperzone’s message to Building Owners, developers and tenants is that good Air Conditioning design, substantially reduces CO2 emissions at the same time saving extra ordinary amounts on running costs. Staker challenged the property development industry to consider that the capital costs for air conditioning is dwarfed by the life cycle running costs.

Replacing an existing R22 unit with an equivalent capacity ECO unit rather than a Standard R410A unit has a payback period of about 2.5 years, reduces electricity consumption and CO2 emissions by over 50%. High Efficiency ECO units make sense from an environmental as well as a financial perspective.

Sustainability is a No Brainer!

But there is more! Temperzone have just announced their ECO Ultra range which will take efficiency and controllability to a completely new level. The release of Temperzone’s patented Humidity Intelligence control system on some of the ECO Ultra range will allow the Air Conditioning system to actively make decisions on the most efficient way to manage performance and autonomously adjust its own system. This is a landmark development for Air conditioning control in humidity sensitive markets like supermarkets and shopping centres.

Asked in the Q & A session whether Temperzone would stop manufacturing their lower efficiency standard product, David Staker said, “Temperzone recently stopped production of the standard form of two of its most popular package units.” He went on to add that it will take some time for the market to accommodate that change across the entire Temperzone Product range.
