Western Sydney League Club

Discreet comfort meets high performance for gaming room HVAC Solution

When a Western Sydney League Club set out to create a stylish new sub-floor gaming room, the brief was clear: deliver a high-performance air conditioning solution that would remain visually discreet, operate efficiently, and overcome significant spatial constraints.

With low ceiling heights, limited space for ductwork, and strict compliance requirements, the project demanded a solution that was both technically robust and architecturally sensitive. Hitachi’s Silent-Iconic ceiling cassette system proved to be the ideal choice.

The challenge

The newly constructed sub-ground gaming room presented several design and installation challenges:

  • Low ceiling height, limiting ventilation options

  • Minimal space for ductwork, ruling out bulky systems or custom bulkheads

  • Potential air circulation issues, with uneven cooling a risk in lower-ceiling environments

  • Outdoor space constraints, requiring a compact condenser solution

  • Aesthetic considerations, as visible HVAC elements could detract from the premium interior design

In addition, the club required a system that would deliver consistent comfort for patrons, meet building code requirements, and remain easy to maintain with long-term reliability.

Key stakeholder requirements

  • Patron comfort and experience through consistent temperature control

  • Logistical simplicity, with an off-the-shelf solution to avoid costly customisation

  • Compliance with building codes despite height limitations

  • Energy efficiency to support lower operating costs

  • Reliability and ease of maintenance from a trusted brand

The solution

The design and install company, Enginuity Design & Construct, worked with the Temperzone team to tailor an Hitachi solution that addressed each challenge seamlessly — indoors and out.

Hitachi Silent-Iconic 4-way ceiling cassette

Chosen for the main gaming floor, the award-winning Silent-Iconic cassette delivered a sleek, low-profile solution that eliminated the need for additional bulkheads. Its compact design and discreet black fascia allowed it to blend seamlessly into the contemporary interior while maintaining optimal airflow and comfort.

Hitachi airHome 600

Installed in back-of-house areas where functionality was prioritised over aesthetics, the airHome 600 provided an energy-efficient, reliable solution with intuitive controls and a modern appearance.

SideSmart™ Slim Modular VRF system

With restricted outdoor space and horizontal discharge requirements, Hitachi’s SideSmart™ condensers were the ideal fit. Their slim, modular design easily adapted to the site’s capacity and spatial constraints while maintaining system performance.

System description

Outdoor units

  • 1 × 40 kW (14 HP) SideSmart™ condenser

  • 1 × 45 kW (16 HP) SideSmart™ condenser

Indoor units

  • 8 × RCI-FSKDN1Q compact cassettes with Silent-Iconic black fascia

  • 1 × airHome 600

Controllers

  • Wired controller PC-ARFG
