60 Years

When Eric Kendall first decided to build his own heat transfer coils back in 1956, he probably didn’t expect his humble venture to grow into an enduring Australasian success story.

Spurred into action because imported coils were struggling to deal with New Zealand’s often harsh and exacting climate, his low-key foray into design and production soon developed into an organisation steeped in a culture of progressive innovation.

Fast-forward to 2016, and Temperzone is today the largest manufacturer of air conditioning equipment in Australia and New Zealand. Served by state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in both Auckland and Sydney, the company has become a leading player in the commercial market and now exports to over 20 countries.

Continuous expansion has been a conscious strategy since its inception. After establishing a firm foothold in its home country, the company successfully turned its sights on the Australian market before creating a strong presence in the Pacific Island and Southeast Asian regions.

Throughout its expansion, the Temperzone philosophy has remained the same. Dedicated to market-leading research and development, the company is committed to pioneering innovative new technologies that provide consumers with cutting-edge climate control solutions.

It’s a guiding principle currently reflected in the drive to deliver market-leading efficiency and control capabilities. Determined to meet the ever-increasing need for environmentally friendly air conditioning solutions, Temperzone is continuing to devote resources to the creation of high-tech systems that reduce carbon footprints while utilising both air and water as heating and cooling mediums. And while its innovative breakthroughs are already delivering significant green energy outcomes for large commercial spaces, the company also aims to increasingly tailor its energy efficiency expertise to meet the demands of the residential market.

Importantly, sustainable design philosophy isn’t the only thing that defines the company’s priorities. Indeed, at a time when the majority of HVAC manufacturing has moved offshore, Temperzone’s continued investment in New Zealand and Australia-based manufacturing demonstrates an ongoing commitment to its workforce and to ensuring its products are perfectly suited for local environments. It’s an approach encapsulated by the group’s dedicated Auckland-based R & D and testing facilities.

But while so much has changed, key aspects of the company’s original DNA remain firmly in place. Today, Temperzone still manufactures its own coils, while the Kendall family (Les Kendall, Governing Director and Brett Kendall, Director) is still intimately involved. In a rapidly-changing world characterised by ever-evolving market demands, it’s clear Temperzone is committed to providing the next generation of responsive air conditioning technologies and creating another 60-years of proud company history.
