The Southern Cross Softball Challenge in Christchurch over Easter proved to be the best preparation possible for Temperzone New Zealand Junior Black Sox as the team prepares for the world championships.

They won their tournament and filled the majority of places in the tournament teams and awards.

The Junior Black Sox beat the Canterbury Development team comfortably twice, but initially lost to the Canterbury Red Sox which featured several current Black Sox players including, Tyron Bartorillo, Josh Harbrow and Josh Thomson by a score of 2-1 before turning the tables in the final for a 5-4 victory.

The top batsman went to Dante Matakatea, the son of Black Sox legend, Thomas Makea. Black Sox catcher, Stephen Ratu playing for the Canterbury Red Sox was the MVP while another Black Sox team mate, Harbrow was named top fielder. The top pitcher was Junior Black Sox Ethan Johnston.
